Parts of Acadiana are under a severe thunderstorm watch, according to the National Weather Service.

Allen, Avoyelles, Acadia, Evangeline, Jefferson-Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, and St. Martin Parish all fell under the watch area.

Chief Meteorologist from the KATC-TV 3 Storm Team 3 Weather Lab said the major threat to Acadiana should arrive in the overnight hours Sunday night, though weather was expected to enter the region by noon today.

Perillo said to expect damaging winds with up to 70 mph wind gusts, along with large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.

Isolated tornadoes could be expected in parts of the region Sunday night going into Monday, Perillo said.
