New voices in the booth and on the sideline are just some of the changes fans will notice when they tune in to radio broadcasts of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns this fall, announced today by rights-holder Townsquare Media of Lafayette.

Former Ragin’ Cajuns wide receiver Richie Falgout will join play by play voice Jay Walker in the broadcast booth as color analyst, while KATC TV’s Travis Webb will serve as the radio network’s sideline reporter.

And, for those who are used to hearing the voices of Steve Peloquin and Gerald Broussard, they will continue to be part of the broadcasts as they will serve as co-hosts of the two hour pre-game show, one hour of which will be broadcast on the eight-station Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Radio Network.

“We’re excited to continue a great partnership with Mike Grimsley and the staff at Townsquare Media in broadcasting Ragin’ Cajuns football throughout the state of Louisiana,” UL Director of Athletics Scott Farmer said. “In the past five years, they have done a tremendous job in expanding our network to where it now reaches all major markets in the state, while providing our fans more information through extensive pregame and postgame shows.”

“We’re very thankful for the job that both Steve (Peloquin) and Gerald (Broussard) have done in helping tell the story of Ragin’ Cajuns football over the years. We look forward to sharing their expertise in their new roles on the pregame show, and we’re excited about the addition of both Richie and Travis to the broadcast crew this season.”

Falgout, who was a wide receiver for the Cajuns from 2007-2010, begins his first year as part of the network broadcast team.  Falgout, a Lafayette native and graduate of Lafayette High School, was with the Cajuns for five years and caught 67 passes for 731 yards in an injury plagued career.  He also holds an NCAA record for most touchdown passes to begin a career, hitting 4-4 for 110 yards and four touchdowns from his wide receiver spot.  He also had a blocked punt as a junior which was returned for a touchdown.  Falgout received his bachelor’s degree in management from UL in May, 2010.

“I’m excited to have Richie join me for the game broadcasts this year,” said Walker, who enters his 24th season in the booth this fall.  “He’s played the game, he knows the game and he can articulate the game.  And now Gerald and Steve can concentrate on hosting pre-game and I know they’ll make the two hours before kickoff a ‘must-listen’ for Cajuns’ fans, wherever they might be.”

Webb is in his eighth year at the local ABC affiliate.  He also hosts the “Ragin’ Cajuns All-Access” television show during the athletic year on KATC’s CW affiliate Wednesday’s at 9pm.  In addition to his sideline reporting, he will also conduct halftime and post game interviews with UL head football coach Mark Hudspeth.  “Travis is a great interviewer and his name recognition in the marketplace will be invaluable.,” Walker said.

Peloquin (13th season) and Broussard (fourth season) will go on the air with local pregame two hours before kickoff.  The two will analyze the game from several different viewpoints, including a fan call-in segment.  In addition, fans will get score updates and hear about the game from head coach Mark Hudspeth.

The radio network for 2015 includes flagship station KPEL-AM, which will carry both hours of the pre-game as well as “The Rage” with Dan McDonald, featuring post game comments from Coach Hudspeth along with caller reaction.  Network affiliates include KHXT (Hot 107.9) in Lafayette, KTUX-FM (98.9) Shreveport, WGSO (990-AM) New Orleans, KJEF (1290-AM) Jennings, KLCL (1470-AM) Lake Charles, KRJO (1680-AM) Monroe, and KTIB (640-AM) Thibodaux.  Games are also available on radioPup, a free app for smart phones, allowing fans to listen anywhere in the world.
