The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is calling for immediate action for over four-and-a-half million vehicles.

The agency says that airbags in Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan and GM Models may be defective. They note that when the airbags are deployed, metal fragments may be projected in the vehicle.

The airbags were made by a company in Japan, Takata Corp. The NHTSA warns that a mechanism within the safety device could rupture, causing the metal projectiles to be dispersed if the airbag is deployed.

The agency says those that live in a more humid climate may be at a higher risk. Yeah, we all know just how humid it gets here in south Louisiana.

You are urged to take your car into your dealership, if your car was made in the early 2000s, so that your airbag and vehicle can be inspected. Toyota has already issued a statement, saying the recall affects about 247,000 of its cars, SUVs and trucks from 2002 to 2005.

Please share this information with your friends on social media so that this recall can be effective. For more detailed info. on the makes/models being recalled visit The LA Times.
