50 Cent Tells Troy Ave to Hold His Head

Troy Ave was formally charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a firearm on Monday evening (May 30) for his role in the shooting at T.I.'s show last week. Many rappers have reacted to the news of Troy Ave's involvement over the past few days with some showing support. 50 Cent is one of the fellow rappers to come to Troy's defense as the "Many Men" artist provided words of encouragement on Instagram.

"Self defense, that's more like it now," 50 Cent wrote. "Hold ya head Troy. See how the story change."

Troy Ave's fight for freedom appears to be an uphill battle as there is footage of him shooting his gun at the Irving Plaza. The video helped police bring charges against the Brooklyn rapper. At his indictment on Monday, Troy and his representation attempted to get him out on $50,000 bond. Their efforts were denied. Troy's lawyers have argued that his actions were in self defense.

"In the hip hop world, he’s not known as one of these troublemakers. He doesn’t live a gangster rap lifestyle," his attorney John Stella said. The New York Daily News quoted Troy’s other attorney Scott Leemon as saying, “What really happened here is Mr. Collins here is the real victim. The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He was his bodyguard. He wasn’t shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend."

Outside of Troy Ave's arrest, much of the reporting on the current investigation has been scattered and inconsistent. Today (May 31), a report emerged that claimed police were looking for a second shooter. The NYPD denied this when XXL asked for confirmation. Another report purported that the bullet that killed Ronald "Banga" McPhatter matched a gun founded in Tory Ave's van.When asked about that, the NYPD told XXL they have not given out any information on ballistic reports.
