Anne Frank Museum Officials Defend Justin Bieber, Call His Guestbook Note ‘Quite Innocent’
Remember how Justin Bieber left an insipid note in the guestbook of the Anne Frank Museum that pretty much broke the internet and pissed off a lot of people?
Turns out the museum staff didn't see what the big deal was about Biebs wishing that his name were scrawled in Anne Frank's diary.
As a reminder, here's what Justin wrote:
“Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber.”
The backlash was swift and furious, but museum spokeswoman Annemarie Bekker told WENN, “He’s a 19-year-old boy taking the effort to come and see the museum, and we’d like to point that out, and I think it’s quite innocent what he put down.”
Innocent, yes. Ignorant? Also yes.
Another museum mouthpiece, Maatje Mostart, explained, “He’s 19. It’s a crazy life he’s living, he didn't mean bad … and also it’s nice that he made the effort, he didn't have to come.”
And the museum's official Twitter account wrote:
Fair enough, but dude, still. Maybe next time, Justin should just sign his name.
