Tyrann Mathieu

The Arizona Cardinals selected former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu with the number 69 overall pick in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft on Friday night.

Mathieu, who will turn 21-years old on May 13, was kicked off the LSU football team for testing positive for synthetic marijuana, after a great 2011 season, in which he was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

The 5:9, 186-pound Mathieu had 76 tackles, including 7.5 for losses, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, six forced fumbles, and two pass breakups in 2011 season. He also averaged 15.6 yards per return, with two touchdowns, returning punts.

Due to his play, Mathieu was named a consensus First Team All-American, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and the Chuck Bednarik Award winner as the top defensive player in college football in 2011.

Mathieu joins former LSU cornerback and teammate Patrick Peterson, who was drafted by the Cardinals in 2011.
