Asher Roth Responds to Eminem Diss

When Eminem disses someone, the whole world hears it.
One of the most surprising moments on ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ is on ‘Asshole,’ when the rapper says, “Ask Asher Roth when he round-a-bout dissed me to shout me out / Thought I was history but god damn honkey, that compliment’s like backhanding a donkey / Good way to get your ass socked in the mouth.”
That line raised a few eyebrows because Em did a freestyle in 2009 that name-checked Roth in a somewhat positive yet odd manner. “Jacking off in a pair of acid wash, bumping Asher Roth / Cruisin’ Gratiot till I damn near crash the car,” Marshall Mathers spit.
Roth, who hasn’t released an album since 2009’s ‘Asleep in the Bread Aisle,’ says he heard the news about the recent diss on Twitter first. His first reaction: “I though it was cool, man. I thought it was pretty amazing, I’m not gonna lie.”
Many speculate that Eminem’s explicit diss was in response to Roth’s perceived subliminal ones over the years. In 2009, Roth told XXL, “Really, it’s just crazy that he even knows my name in the sense of being a 23-year-old kid on the come-up, it’s great to have the pioneers before you really know who you are.”
He also made ‘As I Em,’ a song that touches on the Detroit MC’s influence while denouncing comparisons. The two mentions were seen as slight attacks on Slim Shady’s relevance at the time. Eminem’s comeback album ‘Relapse’ dropped only about a month after Roth’s debut.
