Weather forecasters had been warning us for several days that we would likely experience severe weather in the late evening hours of Halloween and the early morning hours of November first. The forecasters were right on the money.

Officials with the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center are still compiling data and physical evidence from storm damage sites. But, it does appear as if at least 15 tornadoes touched down in the state as the storm system moved through.

Of the storms that affected Louisiana, there were 173 wind damage reports. Some of the most significant damage occurred in Calcasieu, Beauregard, Grant and Rapides Parishes.

The Alexandria area appears to have been the hardest hit with five EF1 or EF 2 tornadoes reported on the ground in Rapides Parish. Two confirmed tornadoes touched down in Calcasieu Parish. One of those damaged property near McNeese State University while the other formed near the community of Carlyss.

The forecast for the weekend appears to be a lot calmer and a lot cooler. Fall-like temperatures with mostly sunny skies should be with us today and Saturday. The next significant threat of rain and storms appears to be on tap for the state on Sunday.
