It's Christmas time in South Louisiana. Lots of cooking, shopping, visiting with family and old friends, and of course Christmas music. Sure, "Frosty The Snowman" and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" are just fine, but in Acadiana, we can do much better than just the standards. I often try to learn things about Louisiana that I don't know. This is a pretty interesting place, so when I set out to see what I can find, I always come across things I don't know. This morning, I learned that Hitler has a horse buried in Louisiana. Wait, Ceste' what?!?
A couple of days ago, my cousin Danny and his family took a day trip to the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville. They've been there before, but this time was a little different. As so many people do, they took a lot of pictures hoping to catch something otherworldly in a photograph or two. Well, my niece Sydney definitely got a pic of something pretty creepy in one of the front windows of the house.
About 20 children in the foster care system attended a pizza party yesterday sponsored by Buck and Johnny's Pizzeria in Breaux Bridge. The kids were asked to use art and poetry to express what being adopted would mean to them. Lavontray, an 8th grader who's been in the system for 5 years now, put his feelings into song and I'm now a teary mess.
For many years, we've enjoyed delicious fried turkey here in South Louisiana. It got me thinking, where did this tradition start? Could we really be responsible for bringing the world fried turkey? You got that right!
