A baby who was in her mother's vehicle when it was stolen was found safe—still snuggled in her car seat— in the weeds alongside a Houston road.

8-month-old Genesis Haley was abducted when a thief stole her mother's car from a Houston gas station while she left her vehicle running and went inside. The mother then observed the suspect get into her green Saturn Ion, and drive off with her daughter inside.

Hours later, the car was found abandoned, but the child remained missing. An amber alert was issued.

A search began immediately, and early Monday morning a jogger heard a baby crying in the bushes during her run and called 911. The woman stayed with the child until police arrived. Once they were on the scene the baby was taken to a local hospital and—besides a few ant bites—had no injuries.

According to Jesus Sosa with the Houston Police Department, the jogger claimed she never takes that route, but for some reason that morning she decided to go down a different path.

The baby has been released to her mother, but police still have questions about who stole the vehicle and kidnapped Genesis. The suspect has been described as a 5 foot 9 inch black male in his late teens to early 20s.
