It was one of the biggest social media missteps of 2014, and now it has been immortalized in a t-shirt that you can own for the price of $20.

You may have never even heard of Barcode—a local Lafayette establishment located downtown on Jefferson Street that publicly described itself as a "straight bar, that mostly hip hop" on it's official Facebook page.

A good reason you may have never heard of Barcode is because the ship sank before it left the dock due to that one poorly worded update that intended to describe the clientele they were going after—but ended up offending a huge part of our local community instead.

The jury is still out on why they felt the need to clarify their sexual orientation, but the story is quite the read, and you can get all the details and more here in this very informative (and wildly entertaining) write up from The IND.

The story went viral almost immediately, and within days (after a poor attempt to "alter" their logo) there was a FOR RENT sign in the window.

I'll never forget walking past the venue shortly after seeing the story online, and every group of friends that passed me on the sidewalk was discussing the bar's social media mishap as they pointed out the building while explaining the story their friends.

I always knew that news traveled lightning fast on social media, but this was by far the quickest—not to mention most unintentional—viral campaign I had ever seen, let alone locally here in my hometown of Lafayette, LA.

Now, here we are with a t-shirt to commemorate the bar that never was, with 25% of the proceeds going to the local LBGT community through donations to the Acadiana PRIDE Festival.

The t-shirt is available for pre-order now through the end of December with orders shipped in early January.
