Baton Rouge man Marcus Ciko, also known as the "Bead Man", has an idea that could revolutionize the way we Mardi Gras. Ciko says he's developed a biodegradable Mardi Gras bead that's all natural, and made completely from local, renewable materials.

Ciko is the owner of 3D Beads, and has been a pioneer in the Mardi Gras game for the past 30 years. He's been making beads for dogs, beads that move like gears and even glow-in-dark beads. Ciko told WAFB these new beads he's created will not pollute the ozone.

From WAFB -

It's readily available. It's natural. It's a renewable resource, and it'll make the beads less expensive

I think it's going to take off because there seems to be a large demand for this kind of product at this point

Ciko also says these new environmentally friendly beads are cheaper to produce than what's used now. Because of the lowered cost, that means Krewes will be able to afford more throws, and that's good news for parade goers.

Ciko hopes to have these new beads available for Mardi Gras 2017.
