The surviving Beastie Boys members, Michael “Mike D” Diamond and “Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, are set to release the group’s official memoir this fall.

The Beastie Boys Book, published by Penguin/Random House, will arrive in bookstores on Oct. 30.

It’s a massive 592-page book that will include rare photos, original illustrations, a cookbook from chef Roy Choi, a graphic novel, mixtape playlists, a map of Beastie Boys’ New York City and more. The book will also feature contributions from longtime collaborator and director Spike Jonze, filmmaker Wes Anderson, comedian Amy Poehler, writer Colson Whitehead and others.

According to the book synopsis, Ad-Rock and Mike D will "offer revealing and very funny accounts of their transition from teenage punks to budding rappers; their early collaboration with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin; the almost impossible-to-fathom overnight success of their debut studio album Licensed to Ill; that album’s messy fallout; their break with Def Jam, move to Los Angeles, and rebirth as musicians and social activists, with the genre-defying masterpiece Paul’s Boutique."

In an interview back in January with Matt Wilkinson of Beats 1, Mike D said that the book would not be your typical music biography.

"To tell our story, we have to give the cultural history of where we came from," he explained. "So New York City in the Eighties, you had all this incredible, exciting music, art, film. All of that sort of has to converge to be able to explain. We just had the good fortune of being around all of it, so I think that's Number One."

"I can say pretty confidently, it will be unlike any other music book," he concluded.

The Beastie Boys Book is available now for pre-order for $50. For more information, head over to beastieboysbook.com.
