A sassy pre-teen girl is featured in a new tampon ad from Hello Flo, and she's talking about her period. Cue internet freak out in 3...2.... But seriously, should the words 'I GOT MY PERIOD' coming from a young girl stir such controversy? Well, the commercial is the topic of a divided conversation, but the spot may actually be the best tampon ad ever.

As far back as I can remember, a woman's period was something that was VERY hush-hush. Ads would often refer to the monthly female body function with blue liquids, and often featured women doing things like hiking and swimming to boast their products effectiveness.

Sure, it may be alarming to hear words like "vadge" coming from the mouth of a 12-year-old girl as she describes her first period described as the "red badge of courage;" but the truth is, while we argue about what's right and what's wrong about the ad, Hello Flo is connecting with females early on in their womanhood and more than likely gaining customers for life.

As their website says: Tampons, pads, and candy delivered right to your door. Simplified, Period.

Genius.
