Carencro Planning Multiple Road Projects

As a new resident of Carencro, I'm very happy to hear about the upcoming repairs planned for some of the much needed roads in the area.

According to Carencro Mayor Glenn Brasseaux, two of the bigger projects lined up for the spring include work to Hector Connoly Road and West Butcher Switch Road.

The city is planning to spend $200,000 to overlay Hector Connoly Road from the roundabout by Super 1 Foods to Rue Coupe Civique.

Then an overlay of about a quarter mile of West Butcher Switch Road in front of Carencro High School is on the books. That project is also projected to cost about $200,000.

The city plans to get bids on both projects next month with hopes of it being finished by the summer. Any money leftover will be used to fill potholes on other streets.

Mayor Brasseaux says roads in the town have been neglected for a number of years, since the flood of March 2012. He says the federal government didn't help then because Carencro's flood was below what was needed to get a federal disaster declaration.

"We've been doing what we can and it's put us in a cash flow problem where we've had to neglect streets," Brasseaux said.

However, things have turned around thanks to a multitude of new businesses that have added to the city's tax base.
