Chick-fil-A is traditionally closed on Sundays, but this weekend in Atlanta, they made an exception.

Over the weekend, travelers were stranded due to a massive power outage at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A power outage is never a good thing, especially when we're talking about the busiest airport in the world.

As stranded travelers waited, Chick-fil-A came to the rescue.

Around 1:15 a.m. the Atlanta airport sent out a tweet showing restaurant workers handing out sandwiches and water to those who were stuck and hungry. Those stranded at the Georgia International Convention Center were also treated with meals.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed thanked Chick-fil-A owner Dan Cathy for his support.

Chick-fil-A explained that they were just doing what they could to help their community in need.

The mayor called about 10pm and asked for assistance. We immediately mobilized staff and team members who live and work near the airport, and they are making sandwiches and delivering them to the EOC (emergency operations center). City and airport officials there are distributing sandwiches to passengers who are stranded due to the power outage. It has been a very difficult day for thousands of travelers, and while Chick-fil-A is always closed on Sunday, our restaurants open occasionally to serve communities in need. We do not make a profit, but do what we can to offer comfort to people experiencing hardship.

This is on par with another time Chick-fil-A opened on a Sunday to feed first responders back in 2015 in areas affected by tornadoes.

Now I'm totally hungry for Chick-fil-A.
