The Daily Advertiser is reporting that Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope is being released from jail.

Pope was ordered to jail on February 28 after his probation was revoked by 15th Judicial District Judge Jules Edwards.

Pope's attorney asked the Third Circuit Court of Appeal to reverse Edwards' decision to revoke Pope's probation. Today, the appeal court stayed his sentence and ordered Pope released from jail while it reviews the case.

It was also reported that Pope's attorney previously filed a motion to allow the City Marshal to serve a portion of his 30-day sentence on house arrest.

Public information officer John Mowell tells The Advertiser that Pope is currently in the process of being released.
