Common has hit the ground running with his new deal with Lionsgate. The Chicago artist is now slated to star in a new TV series based on the book, The Saturday Night Knife & Gun Club.

On Tuesday (Aug. 31), The Hollywood Reporter shared the details of the potential project whose source material was penned by author, B.P. Reiter.

Common will play the role of a street-savvy doctor who works in an inner-city hospital. The series will revolve around Common's character's attempts to lead the hospital against less than ideal circumstances.

Eric Eisner who will serve as executive producer alongside Common. “I’m thrilled to partner with Lionsgate and Freedom Road to develop this exciting new TV series based on this engrossing book,” Eisner said. “We have a great script and a strong team in place, and I look forward to bringing the series to life.”

This serves as the first project in the August Greene rapper's 's deal with Lionsgate, which was announced a couple weeks ago. The Windy City luminary sounded confident that the union would be a fruitful one.

“I’m proud to expand my relationship with the innovative content creator Lionsgate,” Common said of his new deal. “The studio offers a collaborative, creative freedom that is unique in the entertainment industry, which makes them a perfect partner for Freedom Road Productions. I’m looking forward to teaming up with Kevin, Chris and the Lionsgate collective on exciting and fresh television programming.”

No production dates have been given for the upcoming series.
