A cow being prepared for slaughter refused to go down without a fight as it escaped from a butcher shop and led police on a wild chase through neighborhood streets.

The 1,000 pound cow was on the chopping block at Anderson Custom Pack, a meat processing company in Pocatello, Idaho. Authorities say the cow jumped a six foot fence and the chase was on.

Pocatello Police Chief Scott Marchand said his officers shot the animal in the head early in the chase because it posed a safety risk—but the cow just kept on running.

The wounded animal was chased on foot and in vehicles by police and animal control, ramming trucks and police cars along the way. The cow was eventually cornered in the backyard of a residential neighborhood—three miles from where it originally escaped—where it was shot and killed by an officer.

RIP cow—I respect you refusing to go down without a fight.
