Indinapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon died Sunday from injuries he sustained in a 15-Car Pile Up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 33 year older racer was married and leaves behind two young children. Wheldon was airlifted from the track to University Medical Center; about two hours later, his colleagues were told of his death by IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard.

As expected, the entire field of drivers were devatsed upon learning the news on Dan Wheldon. "One minute you're joking around at driver intros. The next, Dan's gone," said Dario Franchitti, whose wife, actress Ashley Judd, had to bring him a box of tissues. "I lost, we lost, a good friend. Everybody in the IndyCar series considered him a friend. He was such a good guy. He was a charmer."

The race was canceled immediately following the news of Wheldon's death, and the field gave Wheldon a 5 lap salute to their fallen colleague. See the video below that caused the injuries to Wheldon which ultimately cost him his life.
