This might come as a shock to some of you but people will lie to you on the internet. The truth is an endangered species online, especially when it comes to online dating sites. Just as some people profess to find love and true happiness, others are using the sites as a way to find victims for their cowardly crimes.

Officials in Terrebone Parish say that four people have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery scheme that had its beginnings on the website Plenty of Fish dot com.  Capt. Dawn Foret of the Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s Department explained what happened.

A male, met who he believed was a female, on plenty of, happened to be the same username as the initial victim. When he went to meet the female for his prearranged date, he was robbed at gunpoint.

Capt. Foret went on to explain to the Louisiana Radio Network that four individuals were arrested in connection with this incident. She said that 20-year-old Aaron Kenny of Houma and 21-year-old Gregory Holloway of Schriever were charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm. A 17 year old female, Jasmine Dupont of Gibson, who was used as bait for the scheme is charged with one count of armed robbery with a fire arm.

Taylor Williams, who is I guess the mastermind you could say, the one who initiated the profile on the plenty of fish website, he’s also charged with online impersonation and possession of marijuana.

Williams was the fourth subject arrested in connection with the incident. He is a 20 year old from Dulac. Capt. Foret says her  office believes that Williams set up a fake account on the dating site and then used a picture of a 16 year old girl in the dating profile. The picture was allegedly used without the young girls permission and knowledge.

Capt. Foret went on to explain that these kinds of crimes are becoming more common place. However, the same technology that the criminals believe will keep them anonymous is the same technology that will lead law enforcement right to their doorstep.
