They say you should learn something new everyday. Today I learned that there is a student-run restaurant on the campus of UL-Lafayette.

Twice a week you can go to the restaurant in Hamilton Hall on campus and have lunch. What makes this restaurant so unique is that the restaurant is run by students majoring in Hospitality Management and Dietetics.

The students are responsible for prepping the meals, waiting on guests, and even coming up with the theme for the restaurant. And yes, they often do switch the menu and decor in the establishment.

For one VERY reasonable price, you can get a four course meal on campus. Yes, that does include a desert too!!!

In addition to all of that, the students in the "lab" also learn how to budget for the business and how to operate software that's standard in all restaurants.

The students are supervised by an instructor throughout this process and with the help of a graduate assistant on the floor, students are trained for the industry.

What's really cool about all of this is that students rotate responsibilities on a weekly basis. One week a student may be prepping meals, and then the following week waiting tables.

In my opinion, this is one of Lafayette's best kept secrets. And you should really consider visiting this restaurant on campus.

Here is Elizabeth, a graduate assistant, explaining how this restaurant operates.
