Former Ragin' Cajun Elfrid Payton is making a splash in his first year in the NBA, and his game landed him on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

One of Acadiana's favorite Cajuns is quickly proving to be a staple for the Orlando Magic and their fans as well. After being drafted 10th overall in last year's NBA Draft, Payton was invited to participate in All-Star weekend, nominated by NBA assistant coaches to play in the Rising Stars game, and now you can add All-Rookie First Team to his list of early accomplishments.

Elfrid, and his hair, stuffed the statline (9.8 ppg, 6.5 apg, 4.3 rpg) with a lot of hustle plays and displayed his knack for tenacious defense by averaging 1.7 steals per game. After seeing his Head Coach fired in the middle of the season, he also adapted and continued to grow and learn to adjust to the pace of NBA play.

Payton joins Andrew Wiggins, Nikola Mirotic, Nerlens Noel and Jordan Clarkson on the NBA's highest class for rookies. Second team consisted of Marcus Smart, Dunk Contest Winner Zach LaVine, Bojan Bogdanovic, Jusuf Nurkic, Langston Galloway. If they stay healthy, the men on these lists are sure to make a big pay check when their rookie contracts come up. The saying "hard work pays off" can sometimes not pan out, but in the case of Elfrid Payton, the shoe fits all too well.

The Magic saw their first back-to-back triple-doubles in franchise history this season. Who holds the record? Elrid Payton. The sky is the limit. Geaux Elfrid.
