Eminem Talks Kendrick Lamar, Social Media and Apology to Mom During SiriusXM Town Hall

On Monday (Nov. 4), the eve of the release of ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2,’ Eminem spoke with a group of lucky fans and media members for an episode of SiriusXM’s Town Hall. The Q&A session, mediated by Sway Calloway, lasted for over a hour and the multi-platinum selling rapper touched on working with Kendrick Lamar in addition to the content on his new album.

Lamar rose to notoriety again over the summer for his incredible verse on Big Sean’s ‘Control,’ which reminded fans and artists about the competitive nature of the genre. As such, many were understandably surprised when ‘Love Game’ — the Em and Lamar collaboration — was more of a conceptual song than a lyrical barrage, although the unteachable technical prowess is still there. This was inspired by the storyline approach of Lamar’s ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city,’ according to AllHipHop.

“Don’t think he didn’t come in the booth and was trying to rip my head off,” Eminem says.

There were also questions about the album’s lyrical content. Em used his history as a battle rapper to defend his use of homophobic slurs on ‘Rap God’ earlier this week, but there was still the question of why the heck is he so bad with Facebook on ‘So Far…’ (“Got friends on Facebook, all over the world / Not sure what that means, they tell me it’s good”) and why he decided to apologize to his mother after years of bashing her on ‘Headlights.’

He says his anger would probably get the best of him if he ended up getting into an argument on social media, which is part of why he stays away from it.

“I would get into the worst arguments like ‘Drive to my house now!’” Eminem responds.

He didn’t say much about his apology to his mother, though. When asked, Slim Shady said he won’t answer questions about his personal life and issues anymore. The answers to those questions will be in his songs.

The full interview aired today at noon on Shade 45 and Siriusxm.com.
