Events by EventfulAn Evening with Elizabeth Smart
The abduction of Elizabeth Smart was one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time. Elizabeth was abducted on June 5, 2002 and her captors had controlled her by threatening to kill her and her family if she tried to escape. She was held prisoner for nine months, but fortunately the police returned Elizabeth back to her family on March 12, 2003. Elizabeth triumphantly testified before her captor and the world about the very private nightmare she suffered during her abduction, which lead to conviction. Through this traumatic experience, Elizabeth has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national legislation.
With a message of overcoming extreme adversity and not allowing the past to dictate your life's future, Elizabeth Smart will speak at Our Savior's Church in Lafayette this evening, an event sponsored by Hearts of Hope. Hearts of Hope responds to Acadiana families affected by the trauma of sexual violence. Doors open at 6 pm; program begins at 6:30 pm. 1201 E Broussard Road. $50. (337) 269-1557 or theheartsofhope.org for tickets.
