Floyd Mayweather Wants Soulja Boy and Chris Brown to Fight for Charity
The Soulja Boy and Chris Brown celebrity boxing match is far from a done deal. Floyd Mayweather appeared on ESPN's First Take today (Jan. 11) and provided a reality check for everyone getting excited about the bout. The boxing star said the fight is still a work in progress. Mayweather also quelled the big money talk of 50 Cent by stating his desire for the fight to be a charity event.
"My thing is this... hip-hop artists, R&B artists talking about physically hurting each other in the streets" Mayweather said. "My thing is put down the guns and pick up the gloves and let's do this. It can be a charity bout. It can go towards something positive. I have Mayweather Promotions, and we're about being positive. So, is the fight gonna happen? We're working on it. It's a lot of work."
Mayweather was asked about the recent report stating that the fight could take place in Dubai, mistakenly referred to as Abu Dhabi by host Molly Qerim. The undefeated boxer shut this down and said the bout will take place in Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
The hype around the celebrity boxing match continues to grow thanks in part to the promotional skills of 50 Cent. The G-Unit leader recently got former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson involved in the matchup.
“So it’s confirmed. I just got off the phone with Frenchy and Chris Brown. I’m training Chris, he chose me as his trainer to take on Soulja Boy,” Tyson said earlier this week. “And Soulja Boy, what the fuck you talkin’ bout, ‘Only thing I’mma teach him is how to bite somebody’s ear off.’ Yeah that’s right, I’mma teach him every dirty trick in the book to knock you out, ‘cuz I’m not gonna teach him how to run.”
50 Cent is also attempting to book an undercard for the Soulja Boy vs. Chris Brown bout. The G-Unit leader has spoken about his idea to set up a 21 Savage vs. 22 Savage fight as well as a clash between Kodak Black and Lil Wayne.
