Four Acadiana area high school football teams will be playing for a state championship game berth in their respective classifications this week, as the LHSAA playoffs begin the semifinal round.

The Acadiana Wrecking Rams, Jennings Bulldogs, Loreauville Tigers, and Vermilion Catholic Screaming Eagles won their respective quarterfinal games last week, and are all just one win away from advancing to LHSAA/State Farm Prep Classic, scheduled for December 12-14, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

In Class 5A, top-seeded Acadiana advanced to the semifinals, after defeating 8th-seeded Barbe, 27-17, and will next host 5th-seeded Destrehan, who eliminated 4th-seeded Dutchtown, 23-7, in the semifinals.

 

There are no Acadiana area team left in the Class 4A bracket, with the top four seeds all qualifying for the semifinal round.

 

In Class 3A, the 5th-seeded Jennings Bulldogs advanced to the semifinal round, after eliminating 4th-seeded Patterson, 27-14, last Friday, and will travel this Friday to take on top-seeded Livonia, who edged past Church Point, 27-26.

 

5th-seeded Loreauville will be playing for a spot in the state title game this week, after defeating 4th-seeded Welsh, 70-28, last Friday.

The Tigers will be host top-seeded Many, who eliminated 8th-seeded Oak Grove, 34-20.

 

In the Class A bracket, 4th-seeded Basile was eliminated by 5th-seeded Kentwood, 32-15, last Friday, so no Acadiana area schools remain.

 

The state title game in the Division I bracket is set for December 12, with Rummel taking on Byrd.

 

The title match-up is also set in the Division II bracket, with John Curtis advancing to take on University Lab on December 12.

 

In Division III, Archbishop Hannan will take on Calvary Baptist in the state title game on December 12.

 

Finally, in Division IV, top-seeded Vermilion Catholic is moving on to the semifinals, after defeating 8th-seeded St. Mary’s, 56-19, last week, and will host 4th-seeded Cedar Creek in the semifinals.
