Gorillaz to Drop New Album ‘The Now Now’ This June
After a bit of teasing, Gorillaz have officially announced that they have a new album on the way this June.
The new album is titled The Now Now, Consequence of Sound reports, although further details about the anticipated upcoming project are pretty scarce. This will be the band's sixth full-length project.
The first inkling that there was new music on the way came from the band's newly launched website, TheNowNow.tv, which features a teaser video of 2-D sitting with a guitar. Then, posters appeared at this weekend’s All Points East Festival in London which had the phrase “NO MORE UNICORNS ANYMORE"—the same phrase that recently appeared in artwork created by band cofounder Jamie Hewlett.
As aforementioned, this will be the band's sixth studio album, following the release of their fifth outing, Humanz, which dropped last year. That album featured D.R.A.M., Vince Staples and more. Prior to that album, the band had't released a project in seven years, since 2010's The Fall (which was first released to fans then released worldwide in 2011).
Last year, Hewlett explained that they were planning to follow up Humanz quickly.
“Usually we have a good five years break but this time we decided to keep going,” Hewlett said at the time. “I’m inventing a new style for the next Gorillaz album."
Gorillaz's new project, The Now Now drops on June 29.
