The Fourth of July weekend has begun! People will be firing up the grill and cooking all sorts of meats and vegetables all across our nation. Chef Zack Doise, co-host on "The Lafayette Food Junkie Show" on Sunday nights from 6-7 p.m. on Newstalk 96.5 FM KPEL, has these grilling tips you should follow:

  • Prep your ingredients before you light the pit
  • Clean your grill and oil it (Season your grill)
  • Don't cover during direct grilling
  • Premature grilling - coals need to be fully lit
  • Use a thermometer instead of cutting into the meat
  • Let large cuts of meat before serving to keep in the flavor
  • Don't drink too much

While you're grilling, though, don't forget about the signers of the Declaration of Independence and how their sacrifices make it possible for us to celebrate on Independence Day.
