Like father, like son. Ice Cube has confirmed that his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., will portray him in the N.W.A biopic, ‘Straight Outta Compton.’
During the Los Angeles premiere for ’22 Jump Street,’ Cube revealed to ‘Entertainment Tonight‘ that his son will recreate his legacy on-screen in the film.
“He was born to play the role. He was born to play that part,” he beamed.
Although nepotism is an old-fashioned Hollywood tradition, the 44-year-old veteran rapper-actor insists that his son earned the role fair and square.
“We don’t give out no freebies,” he said. “He had to earn it, no doubt. He went the whole mile. Screen tests and everything. When Universal looked up, he was the best man for the job and I’m so proud.”
Eazy-E’s son has also lobbied for a role, but according to TheWrap, an unknown actor will likely get the part. Universal could announce the main cast before week’s end.
Cube is producing the movie with Dr. Dre and Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Woods-Wright. Veteran video director F. Gary Gray will direct the film.
The biopic is currently in pre-production and Gray recently shot an end-credits sequence for the film that features Cube and Dr. Dre discussing the legacy of N.W.A.
The film will chronicle the life and music of N.W.A as Cube, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren and DJ Yella became the “World’s Most Dangerous Rap Group” in the late 1980s.
‘Straight Outta Compton’ is set for release in 2015.
