Update:

A rep for Warner Bros. has confirmed to XXL that iLoveMakonnen is indeed off of OVO Sound. Below is Makonnen's official statement:

"I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future & Mr. Morgan, enough for all that they have done for my career. No words can express how much I appreciate Drake for being a part of the success of Tuesday. I’m sure the haters will have something negative to say, but all in all my choice to be solely on Warner Bros Records was the right thing for me and for my best interest. Sorry there’s no beef to report, DRINK MORE WATER.” ILOVEMAKONNEN

Original Story:

It should be pretty obvious that since signing with Drake's OVO Sound label in 2014, iLoveMakonnen has distanced himself from the collective, or the other way around. Now Inverse is reporting that a source close to iLoveMakonnen confirms that he is indeed no longer a part of the record label.

Those who've been paying close attention saw this coming from miles away. Drake's given Makonnen very little shine since the "Tuesday" remix dropped in October, refusing even to play any of his music on his OVO Sound Radio show on Beats 1. Though Makonnen's latest project Drink More Water 6 is labelled as an official OVO Sound release, it looks like it'll be the last of those we see from the Atlanta rapper.

In a December interview with The FADER, Makonnen was asked about his relationship with Drake and brushed the question off.

“By the time this comes out, I’ll probably see him six more times or no more times,” Makonnen said. “I don’t know. I just wish everybody well in all that they do and I just go on and live my life and try to uplift motherfuckers. At the end of the day I’m tired of uplifting people. I just gotta uplift myself now because everything else is a waste of time.”

In a recent interview with XXL, Makonnen was more introspective and focused on getting back to being himself and making the music he likes.

"I’m just trying to be myself, get back to myself and do stuff that I feel like is connecting with me and the people I see out here that’s living in real life," he said. "I just go out and travel and observe and subconsciously write songs and when I get to the studio I freestyle it out over beats. It’s all about shit I observe for however long. That’s just really how I do it. Musically I’m just whatever the world is right now. I’m just trying to be a part of the world, being in the world."

The "Tuesday" rapper doesn't seem too fazed by the fallout with OVO as he just dropped a new song with Lil' B called "Can't Let It Go" and announced a tour with the Based God as well. Stay tuned for the dates and catch the track below.
