Justin Bieber's pal Jaden Smith, the son of mega star Will Smith and his actress wife Jada Pinkett Smith, is seeking emancipation from his parents, so he can do whatever he wants. Whoa. Wait. What? Why?

This is surprising news, since Papa Will seems like a cool dad -- we'd take him-- and one who opens doors and provides plenty of opportunity for his offspring to follow his footsteps into show biz. The father and son appear to have a close relationship, as well, recently starring in 'After Earth' together.

But this move is not about severing ties with his parents; in fact, it sounds like a calculated move to get out from under their thumbs and enjoy some freedom without being in the shadow of super famous parents. Yeah, that sounds like a tough life.

Sources say that Jaden, who may or may not be dating Kylie Jenner, a member of the Kardashian klan, wants to declare his freedom from his parental units so that he can have his own crib. He's all of 14, and will celebrate his 15th birthday in July, and he wants his own digs.

Will was lax about his son's request and reportedly said, "He says, 'Dad, I want to be emancipated.' I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like 'Ooh.'"

Uh, whatever that means.

The actor and rapper continued, "That’s the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand."

Yeah, but he's not even 15. He can take command of his life when he's 18 and a legal adult. He's at a tender age where a parental guiding hand is essential. Plus, look at his bro the Biebs. He isn't exactly exerting control of his life in a positive way and he has over four years on Jaden. This seems like an accident waiting to happen.

Will has also said that he and his wife are not disciplinarians. "We generally don’t believe in punishment," he said. "From the time Jaden was five or six, we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life."

He also said, "I think it’s a much more difficult question to ask someone —'Why was that right?' — than to try to show them why it was wrong."

Um, we're all for progressive parenting, but can someone who is single digits in age grasp such a concept? We're not sure a 15 year old can, either.

Will finished, "Nobody wants to be wrong, all parts of yourself fight like crazy to not be wrong. So I’ll say to Jaden, ‘Why was that the right thing to do for your life?’ and if he can explain why kicking his sister in the chest was the right thing to do, we can see to it that he understands that it wasn’t so smart."

Okay, fine. We see the logic, Will. So let Jaden emancipate if he can prove why it's right for his life, but be prepared for the chaos that could very well ensue.
