Jay-Z Eliminates Hyphen From Name
Note to all writers and editors: Jay-Z is now… Jay Z.
According to Billboard editor Joe Levy, his label sources confirmed the rapper’s name change. He shared the news via Twitter last night (July 17).
Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note.

Although it may seem like a small detail, the ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ creator has seen the style of his name change in recent years, with it showing up in all caps and even without the hyphen.
This is a stark difference compared to the rumored name change before his “comeback” in 2006, in which fans thought he was going to return with the name S. Carter, which is a play on his real name Shawn Carter.
No official word has been released from Hova himself, but it looks like sites such as Billboard and Spin have begun to make the change.
