The man authorities say is responsible for a shooting that happened during the Jeanerette Mardi Gras parade this year has now been taken into custody.

Iberia Parish Sheriff's Major Wendell Raborn says that multiple agencies teamed up to find Kentrell Gabriel in a home in Baldwin.

Raborn says Gabriel is alleged to have shot and killed 22-year-old Dante Archangel during the parade in Jeanerette on February 4.

Gabriel is facing charges of Principle to 2nd Degree Murder and Principle to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.

While he was booked into the St. Mary Parish Correctional Center, he will be sent to the Iberia Parish Jail to face his charges in that jurisdiction.

Raborn says the following agencies helped Iberia Sheriff's officials with the apprehension:

  • St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Agents
  • Investigation and Patrol Division
  • The U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force
