Judge Kaliste Saloom Jr. has passed away at age 99, that according to a Facebook post from his son.

Saloom was born in 1918 to Lebanese immigrants. He would receive his law degree in 1942 from Tulane. However, he would spend the next three years serving in World War II.

Upon his return to the United States, Saloom opened a law firm in Lafayette. Within three years, he was named Lafayette city attorney. In 1953, Saloom was elected to the post of Lafayette City Judge.

In all, he would spend 40 years as city judge. He retired in 1993.

Saloom was active in civic affairs even after his retirement. He was a noted historian of the Hub City and was an ardent supporter of CODOFIL.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Saloom are pending.
