So, I Totally Just Found Out That Rappers Juicy J And Project Pat Are Brothers

If someone told me that today, on February 19, 2014 I would find out that Juicy J and Project Pat were blood brothers, I would have called them a damn liar.

But I wouldn't even be able to call them a liar, because it is indeed true--rappers Juicy J, real name Jordan Houston (pictured above right), and Project Pat, real name Patrick Houston (pictured above left), are as bro'd up as bros can be.

Project Pat is the eldest of the two at age 41, while little brother Juicy J isn't far behind at 38. Both brothers were born and raised in Memphis and have been rapping since 1991. Although Project Pat wasn't an official member of his brother Juicy J's group Three 6 Mafia, he was a frequent collaborator.

As far as how I stumbled upon this jewel of information, it was actually quite the inadvertent mention via a TMZ article that reported on a crew member who fell through a skylight while filming a video for Juicy J and Project Pat.

Project Pat and Juicy J's video shoot came to a crashing halt ... after a crew member fell through a skylight, crashing to the ground around 20 feet below. The former Three 6 Mafia member and his brother were filming on the roof of a very old art deco building in Vernon, CA when the accident occurred.

And just like that, everything I thought I knew about dirty south hip-hop had changed.

I immediately texted a few friends who were just as music-obsessed as I was, and the majority of them had no idea either. I knew Pusha T and No Malice from Clipse were brothers. I knew that Dave 1 from Chromeo and A-Trak were brothers. I even knew that Warren G and Dr. Dre were step-brothers.

HOW IN MY 14 YEARS OF DJNG AND 20+ YEARS OF MUSICAL CONSCIOUSNESS HAVE I NEVER KNOWN THAT THESE TWO MAJOR MUSIC ARTISTS WERE RELATED, LET ALONE BROTHERS!??

I guess you really do learn something new everyday. Some things are just way cooler than others.
