'Recovery''s acoustic-backed instrumental samples singer Craig David's 'Fill Me In,' his debut single. The sample combined with the bass-heavy drums and snaps changes the nocturnal atmosphere for a sense of morning-time reflection that feels refreshing.

Bieber scales back the overly-vulnerable lyricism for a bigger focus on his vocal presence. The strategy works and his performance on the hook is the singer at his best. Bieber fans are going to anticipate his next track regardless, but 'Recovery' may have the indifferent coming back for more as well.
