Despite rumors that one was in the works, it appears that Kanye West will not be making an album dedicated to David Bowie.

According to TMZ, the Chicago-bred super star has no plans to cover or interpolate Bowie's work. The story, which can be traced back to multiple reports in British tabloids, inspired an online petition to bar West from touching Bowie's work; despite the tenuous legal ground it stands on, the petition had so far collected more than 5,000 signatures.

When the British singer passed away earlier this month after a battle with cancer--just days after his 69th birthday and the release of his newest album--West tweeted his condolences. "David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations," the rapper wrote, "so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime."

Kanye is, however, preparing to pull back the curtain on some new music. After more than two and a half years off, he's finally set a date for his seventh solo album. Swish will hit stores Feb. 11; it's preceded by two promotional singles from the past two weeks, "Real Friends" and the Kendrick Lamar-featuring, Madlib-produced "No More Parties in L.A." At press time, it was unclear whether either of those tracks would make the final cut, or if the previously heard songs "All Day," "Only One," "Wolves" or "Fade" would be included on the album.
