Slidell Police arrested a Tennessee man after the woman he allegedly kidnapped sent a text message from his phone, pleading for help.

Police say 34-year-old Lee Meadows of Clarksville, TN kidnapped a woman and fled the state to avoid pending criminal charges. Meadows ended up in the New Orleans area because he reportedly had friends who lived there.

According to WVUE, Meadows took the victim's cell phone along with the rest of her belongings so that she would have no way of contacting anyone. The press release states that Meadows

beat, choked and raped her several times once they arrived at a Slidell hotel

Police say the victim's sheer determination to survive is why she is alive today. She managed to send a plea for help by using Meadows phone to text a family member.

Once police in Tennessee contacted authorities in Slidell, officers were able to bust down the door on Saturday evening and rescue the woman. She was treated at a local hospital for her broken bones and other injuries.

Meadows is currently in the St. Tammany Parish jail faces several charges.
