Lady Gaga sat down with Zane Lowe for an in-depth conversation about her forthcoming album Joanne, which hits shelves tomorrow (October 21). And while she offered several illuminating tidbits regarding the inspiration behind the album, the "Perfect Illusion" singer also offered up the following: At this point in her career, Gaga refuses to be compared to any other artist -- especially Madonna.

Lowe offered a pretty apt parallel between the two pop artists during his 40-minute conversation with Gaga, noting both stars' pattern of rebellion which took place early in their lives. But the "Diamond Heart" singer shut it down as diplomatically as possible -- kind of.

"Madonna and I are very different. Just saying. I wouldn’t make that comparison at all," she said. "And I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna. She’s a nice lady and she’s had a fantastic, huge career. She’s the biggest pop star of all time."

Gaga continued, implying she has a more hands-on approach to her music than Madonna does.

"But I play a lot of instruments, I write all my own music, I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer, I’m a writer," she continued. "What I do is different. I’m not just rehearsing over and over again to put on a show. There is a spontaneity in my work.

"I allow myself to fail. I allow myself to break. I’m not afraid of my flaws. There are major differences between me and her and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way," she said. "I just will not be compared to anyone anymore. I am who the f---k I am and this is me. My life story is my life story, just like yours is [yours]."
