Aviation director Greg Roberts with the Lafayette Regional Airport resigned suddenly on Sunday following an internal incident last week at the airport's administrative offices.

Airport Board Chairman Matt Cruse released a statement Monday saying the incident had nothing to do with passenger safety or airport operations, but it is under investigation.

Two anonymous sources tell IND Media that Roberts pulled out a mock pistol during a meeting with engineers. Roberts was placed on administrative leave on Friday, the report says, and the director submitted a one-sentence letter indicating his retirement on Sunday.

Deputy Director Mike Burrows will fill the position while the airport commission conducts a nationwide search for a replacement.
