The city of Lafayette has been awarded the title of "Cleanest City" for 2015 by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation.

Lafayette beat out Baton Rouge and Metairie in our size category to win the distinction.

City Parish President Joey Durel says many thanks must go out to the Lafayette Garden Club and the Cleanest City Committee as they have worked hard over the years to keep Lafayette as clean as possible.

Durel says,

“The Cleanest City Award happens through a team effort, and it belongs to the community organizations, like the Garden Club, our businesses and all of our residents who help keep Lafayette clean and beautiful.”

The City Parish President adds that so many residents across Lafayette also deserve thanks for working tirelessly to clean their own areas of their communities.  He says so many people team up to work together.

Durel adds,

“This recognition is confirmation that we are headed in the right direction with Project Front Yard and that a cultural shift has started. The community’s interest in being part of the initiative is picking up momentum.”

There is also another group that works really hard at making Lafayette as beautiful as possible and that group is Lafayette's Public Works Department.

Public Works Director Kevin Blanchard says,

"The men and women of Public Works take pride in helping keep the community clean. The public and private sector, together, can make a big impact on the appearance of our shared spaces.”
