Lafayette firefighters responded to two separate fires early this morning. At 2:50am a fire was reported in a vacant home in the 600 block of Jefferson Boulevard. It took firefighters 30 minutes to control the blaze. Heavy damage was sustained by the building. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to another fire at 3:02am in the 500 block of North East Evangeline Thruway. This blaze caused major damage to a two story vacant home.

In the first fire investigators determine the point of origin for the fire was inside the home. In the second instance the blaze started outside the home.

Investigation into four previous fires is on-going and investigators are trying to determine if today's fires are connected.
