There is a chance of some freezing rain in Acadiana today, and because of that, area school boards have decided to close school for today.

Acadia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Mary, Iberia, St. Martin and Vermillion Parish school officials have announced all of their respective public schools will be closed.

Our news partners at KATC have reported the following private and parochial schools have also announced they will be shuttered Friday:

  • Our Lady of Fatima
  • Lafayette Christian Academy
  • St Cecilia in BroussardÂ
  • All three campuses of Ascension Episcopal School

The administrations are worried that roads, bridges and/or overpasses might collect freezing rain and ice, so schools are closed tomorrow.

In the message from the Lafayette Parish School System, they expressed that they want families to know that they do not take making these decisions lightly.

They know that thousands of families are impacted when they make the decision to close the school system.

They say that out of an abundance of caution, closing schools for Friday, December 8 is the best decision.
