Jenika Brooks of Lafayette has been arrested after a two-year-old girl was found wondering in the 400 block of Foreman Drive Tuesday morning. Lafayette Police spokesperson Corporal Nicole Benoit says Brooks faces a charge of Child Desertion.

According to LPD, Brooks allegedly left for work without making sure the caretaker was awake and aware of where the child was after the girl’s father dropped her off. The caretaker’s home was in the 300 block of Sunny Lane. The child, left in the care of Brooks by the father, was able to open the door, leave the home and travel to Foreman Drive.

The child was not injured and was given back to her father.
