42-year-old Bob Cox of Lake Charles died on July 23 when police say he tried to run away from their custody. La. State Police are now investigating.

Trooper Sgt. James Anderson says Cox was approached by two bail bondsmen before he ran from them because he would not go back to jail, which officers say he stated repeatedly. The bail bondsmen were approaching Cox with the intention of revoking his bond.

That's when Cox allegedly began to resist, before the bondsman could get the second handcuff on, armed himself with a knife, then tried to get away. Officers then used a taser, which made Cox fall face down to the ground. As officers were handcuffing him, Cox stated, "I've got a knife in me," which officers then noticed protruding from his chest.

Cox was later pronounced dead at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
