As expected, The Roots delivered another eclectic Roots Picnic event, which is now in its 10th year. For their 10th anniversary, the Illadelph band presented a vibrant mix of entertainment along the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia on Saturday (June 3).

Although Lil Wayne was a no-show for the Roots Picnic, due to unfortunate medical reasons, his absence was really felt because Pharrell Williams, Solange and several other musical acts delivered great performances.

Back by the Roots crew and his trio of dancers, Pharrell performed a variety of tracks from his expansive catalog but also delivered some surprises as well. During his performance, according to Philly.com, Black Thought joined Pharrell for a jubilant rendition of "Happy" and magically segued into Kendrick Lamar's anthemic song "Alright."

But the highlight of the P's show was his surprise guests, which included Pusha T, who performed "Grindin'" and N.O.R.E. who performed "Super Thug (What What)."

Prior to Pharrell's performance, Solange had the audience in a trance during her soulful set. The Grammy-winning singer performed songs from her celebrated album, A Seat at the Table. Swathed in a beaming red light, Solange presented a choreographed performance of her ballads, including "Cranes In the Sky" and "Don't Touch My Hair."

Elsewhere, Black Thought's "Live Mixtape" set also proved to be another highlight at the Roots Picnic. Backed by J. Period, Thought took the crowd down memory lane and reunited with former Roots keyboardist Scott Storch. The Philly rapper also brought out surprise guests veteran Bronx rhymer Fat Joe and legendary rap duo Mobb Deep who both rapped a medley of their classic hits.
