Bob Giles and his company Giles Automotive are familiar names across South Louisiana. The auto dealerships that are under the Giles nameplate carry many of our favorite makes and models of cars. This story is not about cars, it's about community.

One of the many communities the Giles companies serve is Opelousas in St. Landry Parish. Local officials in that community were on the brink of canceling that city's Mardi Gras parade because of a lack of funding for security. That was when Mr. Giles stepped in and stepped up.

Got the information, called Chief Donald Thompson and just told him we want the parades to go on and I will pay the cost of them to provide the security necessary so that the parades can take place.

That's how it happened according to Giles. His comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network.

The Half Fast Krewe of Frank will roll at 11 AM with about 20 police officers in place for three hours to mediate traffic before and after the parade. Giles suggested in his comments that the decision to support the parade was simply the right thing to do.

I think people just kind of know that what I’m about, about giving back and helping the community. When they saw this need for the Mardi Gras parade, they called me. If I’m ever able to help, I always try to do so.

It's not the first time Giles and his business enterprises have stepped up for the betterment of our communities. His dealerships have been long time supporters of Hunters for the Hungry and other service oriented programs. He recently secured an additional 55 bulletproof vests for Opelousas police officers.

Says Giles,

It’s been much more of a blessing for me to be able to help out in situations like this. So, it just feels good to be in a position to do something.

Congratulations Bob we are proud to be not only business partners with you here at the radio station but honored to live, work, and have the same commitment to our community that you have exhibited on countless occasions.
