Lorde has finally met George Brett, the man who inspired her hit song 'Royals.'

Here's the back story: The 17-year-old New Zealand singer penned the tune after seeing an old picture of Kansas City Royals baseball player George Brett in a copy of National Geographic magazine. In the photo, Brett -- clad in his baseball uniform, of course -- is being mobbed by fans, all eager to get his autograph on the baseballs they are holding in their hands.

After 'Royals' came out, Lorde explained just how the photo inspired her to write the song (quote via Deadspin):

"[I] had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs," she said. "He was a baseball player and his shirt said, 'Royals.'"

"It was just that word," she continued. "It's really cool."

Of course, the ultimate irony of the song is that Lorde sings that she and her friends "will never be royals," but of course, it is now she who is frequently sought after and has mobs of fans just waiting for her autograph.

Lorde and Brett have tried to meet before, but the timing never worked out. However, now the duo have finally been united, and the MLB has the picture to prove it:

We think that's pretty freaking cool.

PopCrushers and Lorde fans, what do you think of Lorde meeting George Brett?
