Mario Tama, Getty ImagesAttention current residents of Louisiana: Whether you like it or not, there is a petition on the books right now that could lead to Louisiana separating itself from the United States of America. The petition to secede from the union was started on November 7, 2012 (the day after election day) by Michael E. from Slidell, LA and has garnered well beyond the 25,000 signatures required for a response from the White House. At last count, the signatures had eclipsed the 30,000 mark – but the only problem is, a lot of people think that Louisiana is trying to “succeed” from the union. Sigh.
Branson Steven Myers (@BransonMyers): If we succeed from the union we get to have the entire Louisiana Purchase.

Leann Webb (@MLWebb): Louisiana is wanting to succeed from the Union since the election. I always said they are their own country. @ConservativeLA
Trillary Clitan (@_Trevie_): 98% of the people in Louisiana make less than $250k... Clearly we can't afford to succeed from the US!
Dalton Williamson (@Dalton_Sketch): Texas and Louisiana are trying to succeed the union. Did we not learn anything from the first time?
Hunter Deloach (@hLoach): Louisiana already has over 13,000 signatures on the petition. We have to have over 25,000 to succeed, looks like we're leaving!!
Nathan Walters (@nathan624): My structural analysis professor is teaching us that Louisiana is useless state that we should let succeed.
